Hi there!
This forum is intended for the coordination of the Odd Meter Mash-Up / Remix Compilation.
If you don't know what (music) mash-ups are, you should probably go and find out (Google will help you). And if you don't know what odd meters are, you should probably check out this old thread or the Odd Meter Songs and Odd Meter Mash-Up sub-forums.
The Odd Meter Mash-Up Compilation will consist of two parts:
1) New, and previously unreleased, Odd Meter Mash-Ups/Remixes; and
2) Older, previously released Odd Meter Mash-Ups/Remixes.
If you would like to participate in this project, you will need to register on this forum. It's quick and easy.
There are four options for participation:
a) Submitting one or more of your own new and previously unreleased odd meter mash-ups or remixes for (1);
b) Submitting your own previously released odd meter mash-up(s) or remix(es) for (2);
c) Suggesting one or more previously released odd meter mash-up(s) or remix(es) by somebody else for (2), and;
d) Some/all of the above.
Submissions and suggestions to 2) will be generally viewable as a public service. Submissions to 1) will not be, until the project is finished and released for general consumption.
The editors and final arbiters of the Odd Meter Mash-Up Compilation are CMCpress, Lee Spoons, and not-I. We will collectively decide on what is ultimately included in, and the sequencing of the two albums, as well as generally coordinate the project.
However, if you can pull off a new Odd Meter Mash-Up or Remix, your work will very likely be included on 1)!
And if you've already done so, there is a rather good chance that at least one of your tracks will be included on 2) (with your permission, of course).
Here are the rules:
- Submissions/suggestions, regardless of to 1) or 2), can be in any time signature OTHER THAN 4/4 (or its variations like 8/8, 2/4, etc). To keep it broad enough, meters not generally considered odd (like 3/4 waltz) are also allowed, along with changing meters (like tunes that switch between 7/4 and 4/4) or polyrhythms (like 5/4 over 4/4), but the emphasis is on odd.
- Both bootleg/mash-ups and remixes are allowed.
- The bootlegs/mash-ups or remixes for 1) must be new, i.e. previously unreleased, and remain so until the release of this compilation. If they are not they can be submitted for inclusion on 2).
- Multiple submissions are allowed (and encouraged).
- Final submissions to 1) should be in high-quality mp3. Suggestions/submissions to 2), should be in the form of INDIRECT links (i.e. give us the name and the site they're on). For 1), we'll let you know where to send them when the time comes.
- A final deadline has not been set, but release is intended for May or June 2009. We'll let you know.
That is all for the moment. If you have any questions about the general concept or rules, ask here.
We feel that this concept and the resulting compilation might inject a fresh jolt of energy into the bootleg/mash-up/remix scene and are confident that there are many odd people out there just waiting for something like this.
Happy odd bootlegging/mashing/remixing!
for the editors team,
